Critical Skills and Practice in Human-AI Translation (6 credits)
This course develops the critical skills and practical strategies essential for effective human-AI collaboration in translation. Grounded in a functionalist framework, students will learn to analyze and adapt AI-generated translations to serve specific communicative purposes, audiences, and contexts. The course focuses on areas where human expertise remains indispensable, including figurative language, tone and emotion, ambiguity and ambivalence, and multimodal texts. Through theoretical grounding and hands-on practice, participants will critically evaluate AI outputs, identify their strengths and limitations, and apply targeted improvements to produce culturally sensitive and functionally effective translations across diverse text types.
