Human Issues in Translation in the Age of AI (6 credits)
Course Code
CHIN 7225
The age of Artificial Intelligence comes with both opportunities and challenges for the language service market and human society: the unclear boundaries between human and AI contributions, the threat of algorithmic bias, and the risk of losing human agency and identity in highly automated workflows. There is an urgent need to reconceptualise not only machines but human beings facing the challenges ahead. This course equips students with the theoretical and critical tools to navigate this disruption. It investigates the existential, ethical, sociological, and ecological dimensions of translation in the algorithmic age.
