Language, Culture, and Literature: Critical Post-Editing in Human-AI Translation (6 credits)
This course examines generative AI–assisted writing and translation workflows through critical analysis and hands‑on practice. Students will develop language sensitivity, cultural discernment, and literary awareness by designing and managing human–AI workflows for critique and translation of poetry, prose, and other text types. Coursework includes (1) individual human or self‑translations across chosen genres; (2) structured peer critique producing interim bilingual drafts; and (3) collaborative AI‑assisted post‑editing to produce final texts. Students will document prompts and revision logs and submit a final reflective report analyzing methods, ethical considerations, and transferable post‑editing strategies that demonstrate improved evaluative skill with AI outputs and the ability to adapt translations to cultural contexts.
