Advanced Translation Studies (6 credits)

The Course aims to train students to engage critically with some of the most important and influential translation theories that have emerged in the Chinese and Western world since the mid twentieth century. It comprises (a) a theoretical segment on the different ways of conceptualising and studying translation, (b) a historical segment on the changing views and focuses of translation, and (c) a series of case studies highlighting particular topics and issues. Through an investigation and comparison of translation theories past and present, students will be able to draw on experience accumulated in translation studies, and thus getting a grasp of a clear picture of translation practices.
